New from the Australian Bureau of Statistics

Figures released on May 8  showed that during April 2014:

  • The Australian Labor force increased by 14,200 people.
  • The monthly hours worked decreased by 39.9 million hours.
  • Unemployment decreased by 400 persons.
  • The Consumer Price Index increased by 0.6% in the march quarter (a rise of 2.9% throughout the year).
  • Australia’s estimated residential population reached 23,235,800.
  • The highest population growth by state was awarded to West Australia with 3.1% growth.
  • The national population growth rate reached 1.8% as at September 2013.
  • And the domestic economy was estimated to have grown by 0.8% at the close of the December quarter.
